The Origin of Blathersite

Blather (noun)

voluble nonsensical or inconsequential talk or writing

-The Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Throughout my journey of writing, I spent most of my time writing short stories and snippets of scenes. I even took a creative writing class in college despite my major being Exercise Science (I graduated from high school with a year of credits yet lacked enough sciences to graduate college early, so I had a lot of free credits to take in order to maintain full-time status… it’s a long story), and I rediscovered my desire to publish a book. Now, I’d been writing books and short stories since I was in elementary school, but I’d never sat down and written a real book with a complete story. So I set out to write an honest to goodness story with fully developed characters and an enjoyable plot that included a character who was everything I’d ever dreamed of being when I was younger: a stubborn doctor who dedicated her life to helping others while also supplementing her career with her novels and blog. While developing my character’s life and interests, I gave her fictional blog the name Blathersite.

Blathersite originated from the term blatherskite which describes a person who blathers. I fell in love with the concept of Blathersite, a website dedicated to the findings of a person who spent her entire life trying to learn as much as she could about the world around her. While Blathersite remains in the unfinished book I am working on, I decided there is no better way to share what I learn while researching for this book than by bringing Blathersite to life in the real world.

Blathersite won’t just consist of posts related to the development of my book because as much fun as it is to research and write a murder mystery, I’d like to stay true to the original blog’s purpose: the accumulation of knowledge. I can’t guarantee that all of the knowledge shared here will be relevant or even useful, but I can promise that all of the information was fun to learn to me.

Blathersite is my pet project to compile everything I learn in the coming years, and I can only hope that someone out there enjoys reading this as much as I enjoy writing it. They say that if you can’t find what you want to read, you should write it yourself. And thus, Blathersite was born. Naturally, as my pet project, Blathersite’s logo also includes my beloved cat and co-author, Mordecai.

So if you’re the kind of person who enjoys collecting information on everything and nothing all at once, Blathersite is the place for you.

From one nerd to another, I hope you find as much joy in learning from Blathersite as I do writing it.

I’m Elizabeth Grace

Welcome to Blathersite, a blog dedicated to the accumulation of knowledge of all kinds. As an aspiring novelist and avid collector of hobbies, I tend to hoard information that may seem like nonsense, but it has its uses (or at least I like to think it does). This site is dedicated to sharing that information with others who find the knowledge useful or those who simply enjoy collecting nonsensical blather. Regardless of why you came, I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you decide to stick around!
